Manuel Tânger
Manuel Tânger is a SingularityU Portugal expert in Disruption, Innovation & Entrepreneurship. He holds an MSc in Physics from Instituto Superior Técnico in Lisbon which he concluded with a top graded final thesis supervised by Physics Nobel Prize Winner 1999 Gerard t’Hooft at the University of Utrecht.
Manuel lived in many different countries during his life like Brazil, China, India, Holland, Italy, Canada, Belgium and, of course, Portugal. In 2009, Manuel co-founded beta-i, an organization actively promoting entrepreneurship and innovation around the World, where he is a board member and Head of the Innovation and Corporate Acceleration team.
Having helped Global companies like Airbus, Nestlé, Nokia, Cisco, Novartis, EDP, Ageas, Deloitte and so many others define and design innovation strategies, Manuel can provide a wide scope of insight into all the main industries and a fine-tuned vision of how companies can innovate their way to the future.

Exponential Thinking & Foundations of Exponentials
Humanity has seen more progress in science and technology in the last 40 years than the previous 4000. Within the last generation, we have discovered the role that exponential growth plays in driving progress forward. We’re making exponential advances in computing technologies, communication infrastructures, artificial intelligence, biotechnologies and more. Tools that were only available to the wealthiest research labs are being democratized such that small teams the world over, can now accomplish what only governments and corporations could do just 15 years ago. Our understandings of the past are no longer sufficient to inform us about where we are headed as a species.
In this session, learn the basics of exponential technologies and innovative frameworks of exponential thinking, such as Exponential Technology and its impacts, applying Exponential Thinking, 6Ds of Disruption, Global Grand Challenges, Massive Transformative Purpose (MTP) and Exponential Organizations.
6D's of Disruption: from Digitalization to Democratization
The 6 Ds are a chain reaction of technological progression, a road map of rapid development that always leads to enormous upheaval and opportunity.” – Peter Diamandis and Steven Kotler, Bold.
The 6Ds is a framework outlined by Peter Diamandis and Steven Kottler in their book, Bold. It describes the progression made by a product or service, starting when it becomes digitized. It moves through several stages and eventually becomes disruptive and democratized. This framework plays a key role in explaining the theory of Abundance.
This activity gives participants the opportunity to choose a product, service, or industry, and map out its trajectory along the 6Ds from digitization to democratization.
After completing this activity, participants will be able to:
- Describe each phase of the 6Ds from digitization through democratization.
- Apply the 6Ds framework to a specific industry, product, or service.
- Identify drivers of exponential technology growth and the potential impacts on industry, products, and services.
- Identify how the 6Ds may impact your business.
Futures Wheel Workshop
Take a collaborative and systematic approach to mapping possible futures by working from the known and venturing into the unknown. Identify 1st and 2nd order implications cascading from transformative developments and trends. Explore unintended consequences, points of convergence, dependent and contingent relationships, and the dynamics of disruption from unusual places and walk away with an easy-to-use tool for future exploration.
